Ashley Akers

Bio

Ashley Akers is a jewelry artist who lives and works in Fort Worth, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas in 1999, studying under Harlan Butt.


Work

Ashley Akers’ current body of work, the Pebble Series, utilizes found river rocks and pebbles. Working at a garden shop filled with rocks led to these designs. With the pebble jewelry Ashley enjoys elevating the status of a found object (the pebbles) to that of a precious one. In her other collections she combines contrasting colors and textures with simple, modern designs. Her work is made primarily with sterling silver and accented with semi-precious gemstones. All of Ashley’s work is hand fabricated and finished. Her main means of construction is soldering, although many of the pebble designs do incorporate tube rivets.
